At Dimensions, work is more than a job, it’s a chance to make everyday matter. You’ll join a team built on respect, courage, and partnership, where your ideas are valued and your wellbeing comes first. Recognised as a Great Place to Work for seven years, we’ll support you with training, flexibility, and career development so you can thrive. Together, we’ll create opportunities for people to live life their way and help you grow in ways that matter to you.
In this role, you’ll be supporting a gentleman in his early 40s to live comfortably and safely in his own home, while enjoying the routines and activities that are important to him.
This is a specialist role, supporting someone with complex and profound learning disabilities and autism, where consistency, patience and confidence are key.
About the Person You’ll Be Supporting
He is usually a calm and settled individual who communicates in his own way using:
Makaton
Pointing to objects
Body language
You’ll take time to understand his communication style and build a strong, trusting relationship.
When he becomes unsettled, he may:
Stamp his feet
Experience behaviours of distress
Occasionally engage in self-injurious behaviours
You’ll support him with calm reassurance and consistency during these moments, following agreed support strategies.
His Interests & Routine
He leads a structured and fulfilling life, and you’ll help him enjoy the things he loves most:
Long walks around the marina (he’s a fast walker, so you’ll need to keep up!)
Watching darts and snooker at home
Using his Storio and Innotab, often listening to his favourite stories on repeat
Spending regular time with his family, who are a very important part of his life and visit regularly
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll provide consistent, person-centred support, including:
Supporting communication and understanding his needs
Following structured routines and support plans
Providing reassurance during behaviours of distress
Personal care
Supporting a specific diet plan as advised by SALT (Speech and Language Therapy)
Supporting daily routines and maintaining a safe home environment
Supporting him to access the community and activities he enjoys
Shift Patterns
Support is provided on a 24-hour basis, and you must be able to work:
8:00am – 10:00pm + sleep-in
Followed by 7:00am – 8:00am
Sleep-in shifts are a required part of this role
Rotas are planned 4 weeks in advance to support work–life balance
We’re looking for someone who is:
Calm, patient and confident
Physically able to keep up with an active routine
Observant and responsive to non-verbal communication
Emotionally resilient
Reliable and consistent
A confident driver with a full UK/EU manual licence (you’ll use his mobility car)
