About the role
As a Support Worker, you'll be supporting autistic people and people with learning disabilities and complex health needs to live fulfilling, independent lives. You'll provide person-centred support with all aspects of daily living, including personal care, meal preparation, eating and drinking support, mobility assistance using hoists and wheelchairs, and accessing the local community.
You'll be supporting people with the things that are important to them, helping them shape how they want their week to look. That might mean supporting someone to attend college or a day service, enjoy a trip to the cinema, go bowling, visit local shops or be present and active in their community. Every person you support has their own preferences, routines and goals, and you'll play an important role in helping them achieve these.
You'll support people with everyday living, including meal preparation, support with eating and drinking, support with personal care, medication, mobility and health needs. Some of the people we support use wheelchairs and hoisting equipment, and all require thoughtful, person-centred support that promotes dignity, choice and independence.
Working as part of a larger team, you'll also have opportunities to be a key worker, helping to ensure people's support plans reflect their goals, aspirations and the things that matter most to them. While teamwork is essential, there will also be occasions where you'll work independently to provide dedicated 1:1 support.
Shifts: This is a full-time permanent position working a mixture of early and late shifts (7:00am-2:30pm and 2:30pm-10:00pm), including alternate weekends.
About you
You don't necessarily need previous experience in care, but you do need the right values. We're looking for someone who is compassionate, patient, reliable and committed to helping people live the life they choose.
You'll be a strong team player with excellent communication skills, confident using technology to complete records and support plans, and comfortable providing full personal care. You'll enjoy being active, supporting people in their communities and encouraging them to try new experiences and develop new skills.
Most importantly, you'll have a positive attitude, be willing to learn, and believe in supporting people to be as independent as possible by focusing on what they can do, rather than what they can't.
