Are you looking for a rewarding challenge where you can make a real impact? Do you have the patience, resilience, and motivation to support a young man in achieving his personal goals? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
Who Will You Be Supporting?
You’ll be working with a gentleman in his 20s who has autism, a learning disability, and behaviours of distress. He enjoys:
- Spending time alone in his safe space with sensory items, soft textures, and light-up objects
- Watching colourful cartoons for sensory stimulation
- Classical music in the car
- Using a yoga ball for movement and relaxation
He values his routine and personal space, so we’re looking for someone who is calm, patient, and able to engage with him at his own pace. Over time, we want to encourage him to become more active—taking short walks and gradually expanding his world with the right support.
You will also need to provide emotional reassurance when experiencing behaviours of distress – full positive behaviour support training is provided but previous experience is essential.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Providing 2:1 support to ensure his safety and well-being
- Assisting with personal care, medication, and daily routines
- Encouraging small steps toward independence, such as going for short walks
- Using positive behaviour support strategies to manage distress
- Observing and responding to non-verbal communication cues
- Building trust and helping him feel comfortable in new situations
Shift Patterns
- Day Shifts: 7am – 2:30pm / 2:30pm – 10pm / 7am – 10pm
- Sleep-In Shifts: 10pm – 7am (included in long days)
We are particularly interested in candidates who can provide consistent support to maintain stability in his routine.
