Support Worker – Waking Nights
- Location: Stowmarket, Suffolk
- Hours: 33 hours per week (3 nights per week, 9 PM – 8 AM)
- Pay Rate: Competitive - £12.98 per hour.
Are you passionate about making a difference in someone’s life? Do you have experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autistic people? We are seeking a self-motivated and confident Support Worker to provide waking night support to a remarkable young gentleman in his mid-20s.
About the Role
You will be working in a bungalow providing 1:1 waking night support for a young man. During the daytime, he receives 2:1 support. He is intelligent, communicative (using Makaton), and knows what he wants—but he can push boundaries.
This role requires someone with the ability to remain calm and patient while implementing a positive support plan tailored to his needs. You will need to establish a strong rapport, understand his triggers, and gently guide him back when he becomes unsettled. A sense of humour, creativity, and empathy are key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining a safe and comfortable environment during the night.
- Monitoring behaviours of distress and following his positive support plan.
- Completing household tasks, health and safety checks, and documentation.
- Medication management as needed.
- Encouraging good hygiene habits with support and prompting.
About Him
This young man enjoys Xbox, food, football (Chelsea is his team!), swimming, and gym visits. He communicates with his family daily and uses Makaton and Facebook Messenger to connect.
What We are Looking For
- Experience supporting individuals with autism, learning disabilities, and behaviours of distress.
- Someone assertive, patient, and able to stay calm under pressure.
- A good sense of humour and the ability to adapt and de-escalate situations creatively.
- Someone who can understand his needs and provide patient, consistent support.
