Exciting Opportunity: Part-Time Support Worker

  • Location: Wivenhoe, Colchester
  • Hours: 22.5 hours per week
  • Pay: £12.00 per hour

Are you someone who loves making a difference? Are you upbeat, outgoing, and ready to bring positive energy to a supportive home? We are looking for a Support Worker to join our team in Wivenhoe, Colchester!

This part-time role is ideal for those who enjoy variety in their schedule. You will work a mix of 7.5-hour shifts, long days, and occasional waking nights to cover annual leave or sickness. While your shifts will follow a regular pattern, there is an expectation to work one day over alternate weekends.

Our location in Wivenhoe, with free parking on-site, makes this role ideal for students at the university or those living in nearby villages.

About the role

The home is a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals are encouraged to live fulfilling lives as part of their local community. You will be supporting three men and one woman, aged 40 to 60. Each person communicates in their own way, whether through words, body language, or facial expressions. Being present and engaged in their community is an important part of their lives.

Your role will involve supporting people in their day-to-day lives, helping them thrive and be present in their community. Whether it is a trip to the local garden centre, a visit to the pub, attending a disco, or simply shopping in town, you will play an essential part in enabling them to enjoy these experiences. One gentleman is excited to start college soon, and another enjoys swimming. As a Support Worker, you will help them navigate these interests, ensuring they have a structured, fulfilling routine.

They value their independence, and your support will help them achieve their goals. This might mean supporting with personal care, meal preparation, or household tasks, but it also means empowering them to take an active role in their lives. Whether it is preparing meals together, tidying their rooms, or shopping for groceries, you will encourage their participation.

Working hours - Flexibility is important in this role. You will work a mix of shifts, including 7.5-hour shifts, longer days of up to 15 hours, and occasional waking nights to cover annual leave or sickness. Shifts typically start between 7am and 8am, finishing by 9pm or 10pm. Waking nights run from 10pm to 7am. While most tasks are shared with another team member, you may occasionally work independently for short periods during the morning or evening or while providing 1:1 support.
