About the role

  • Support Worker
  • Part time – 30 hours per week
  • Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33

We’re looking for an experienced Support Worker to support a 30-year-old gentleman in a supported living home. He loves music (The Rolling Stones and Queen), browsing pub memorabilia online, exploring virtual pub tours, visiting his favourite pub for a meal, and going to the park to throw a frisbee or enjoy the swings. He attends a local day centre which he’s been part of for seven years and values familiar, trusted relationships, especially with his family.

You’ll work from a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach, overseen by Dimensions’ Behaviour Support team. Your role is to support safely and proactively, using structured routines, clear communication, and environmental adjustments to achieve the best outcomes.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide skilled 1:1 support, with 2:1 at times.
  • Embed his PBS plan, proactive strategies, and least restrictive support.
  • Support communication using simple, consistent language and Makaton (training provided).
  • Maintain safety in the community (e.g., safe travel plans, preventing unsafe approaches to people/objects)
  • Support with personal care and hygiene routines.
  • Promote optimal health & wellbeing: attending appointments and following health plans.
  • Encourage skills development at home: cooking, shopping, cleaning, and home maintenance.
  • Keep transparent family links, sharing agreed updates, and supporting regular visits.
  • Record quality data, safeguarding concerns, and outcomes in line with policy.

You’ll need to be flexible, which may include weekends, waking nights or sleep-ins, and bank holidays. We’ll provide full, paid, accredited training and a supportive induction to set you up for success. You’ll receive role-specific training including PBS, Makaton, and Pro-SKIP to support safe care.

You will be:

  • Skilled in supporting autistic adults with complex needs/OCD using PBS approaches.
  • Clear and consistent in your communication; comfortable using Makaton (or willing to learn).
  • Risk-aware and confident supporting safety in the community (roads, public interactions, environmental “fixing”).
  • Organised, reliable and a strong team player who values family partnerships and professional boundaries.

Experience in complex behaviour support is highly desirable.
